Reporting a sick leave
An employee must immediately report an absence due to being sick to their employer in a method agreed in advance.
The employer may have guidelines for reporting short absences is a certificate from a public health nurse/nurse sufficient or whether the employee can take e.g. three days of sick leave by their own declaration.
Doctor’s certificate
If such guidelines do not exist, the employer can request a doctor’s certificate for each separate sick leave. The doctor’s certificate must be delivered to the employer via the method agreed, without any delay.
The employer can also designate the doctor to be used for a justified reason. In such cases, the employer will also pay the costs of acquiring the certificate.
