Holiday bonus

A holiday bonus has been negotiated for the collective agreements of SuPer members.

Under SOTE, HYVTES, KVTES and YTHS agreements, the holiday bonus is determined by the employee accumulating 6%, 5% or 4% of holiday bonus from their actual regular salary during the holiday year. The percentage is based on work experience and the duration of the current employment relationship.

The holiday bonus is usually calculated based on pay in July and is paid on August’s pay day, unless otherwise agreed between the employer and the employee.

According to SOSTES and TPTES collective agreements, holiday bonus is 50% of the annual holiday pay.

This means that the employee is paid 50% of their annual holiday pay, including increments, as a holiday bonus.

However, holiday bonus is not paid for any additional holiday days.

The holiday bonus is calculated based on the regular monthly pay received in June and paid on payday in July, unless some minor changes to the payment date are agreed on between the employer and the employee.

Check the more specific regulations on calculating the holiday bonus and its payment date from your employer or your union representative.

The holiday bonus will also be paid together with the final pay at the end of the employment relationship, with certain terms in place. This means that getting your holiday bonus no longer requires actually taking your holiday and returning to work.

Exchanging holiday bonus for time off

If your employer proposes that you exchange your holiday bonus for time off, first discuss the matter with your union representative.
