Immigrants have the same rights

Immigrant workers should always have the same rights and obligations as the native population. These include e.g., the right to equal pay and working conditions, as well as the right to organize.

International recruitment should not allow for the creation of a secondary labour market.

Vimma network

Vimma is a network for non-native speakers with a shared goal of getting actively involved with the local union branches.

The purpose of the network is to pass on information about how SuPer works to non-Finnish speakers, as well as the role of local branches, and the union’s advocacy services and training opportunities available to members. An important part of the network is also to respond to questions posed by non-Finnish speakers and create a safe atmosphere where one can share their own experiences in the workplace and get to know other non-Finnish speakers in the same profession.

At the moment, the Vimma network operates in the capital region of Helsinki.

Always keep in mind

  • It is safe to belong to a trade union in Finland and generally people do belong to one.
  • Usually there is shop steward at each work place, and the local trade union branch and SuPer office staff are also there to assist.
  • If your collegue is not yet member of SuPer, be sure to explain to them the importance of union membership for their employment, their wage as well as the role of unemployment beneftis.
