Changes affecting membership
SuPer automatically receives information about name and address changes from the Population Information System if you have not restricted the disclosure or updating of your information. Address updates are automatic only within mainland Finland.
In the Oma SuPer service, you can check your contact information and update your name, postal address, email address, and phone number.
If you are a student member of SuPer and are about to graduate with a secondary-level degree in social and health care or education and guidance, update your information and join SuPer as a regular member.
Student membership does not automatically transition to regular membership. You can apply for regular membership toward the end of your studies when you know your graduation date.

If you do part-time work or receive adjusted daily allowance, you must pay the 1.2% membership fee on your earned income, either by yourself or by authorizing your employer to deduct it.

Retirement affects your membership. When transitioning to permanent full-time old-age or disability retirement, inform SuPer via the Oma SuPer service or the Service Card in the SuPer magazine. SuPer does not receive retirement information from other sources.
Remaining a SuPer member in retirement is worthwhile. As a retired member, the union membership fee is only 30 € per year. You retain a wide range of benefits and can continue participating in SuPer’s events and training sessions.
If you wish to maintain membership in the Unemployment Fund as well, the additional fee is 84 € per year.
If you do not wish to continue as a member after retiring, please submit a written resignation to SuPer’s membership unit via secure e-mail.
If you are receiving caregiver’s allowance without being in an employment relationship or are working as a foster caregiver and receiving compensation, you are exempt from membership fees. (To receive compensation, you must have an agreement with the wellbeing services county.)

Are you considering leaving the union?
If you have changed professions, it is recommended that you join a union relevant to your new field. Pay your membership fees up to the date of termination to ensure uninterrupted income security.
If you are retiring, you can choose to continue your union membership with an affordable annual fee. Notify the membership unit of your retirement or use the Oma SuPer service to do so.
If you have unpaid membership fees, you can propose a payment plan to the membership unit to ensure your membership continues without termination due to unpaid fees.
If you are dissatisfied with the union’s services, please provide feedback so that we can improve and develop our operations further. Every member’s feedback is important to us.
The resignation notice (written) can be submitted via secure email; select “Jäsenyysasiat” (“Membership Matters”) as the recipient. In your notice, please include
- your name
- membership number
- whether you are resigning from the union and the unemployment fund
- the reason for your resignation for statistical purposes.
If you decide to terminate your membership, you are always welcome to rejoin SuPer at any time.
The maximum SuPer membership fee payable on earned income is 600 euros per year. If you have paid more than 600 euros in membership fees, you can apply for a refund of the excess amount. Contact SuPer’s membership unit via secure email; select “Jäsenyysasiat” (“Membership Matters”) as the recipient. In your message, please include your
- name
- membership number
- bank account number
- the period for which you are requesting the refund.
The excess amount over the maximum will be refunded to the member during the following year.
The maximum limit applies only to fees on income earned during the specific year under review. Payments originally due in earlier years and settled, for example, through a payment plan, are not included in the maximum calculation. Membership fees deducted from unemployment fund benefits are also excluded from this limit.
If you are not a member of SuPer but your employer has deducted membership fees directly from your salary, contact SuPer’s membership unit via secure email; select “Jäsenyysasiat” (“Membership Matters”) as the recipient.
Remember to notify your employer’s payroll department about the situation and revoke SuPer’s membership fee deduction authorization to prevent further deductions.
The minimum refund amount for membership fees is 5 euros, meaning refunds below 5 euros will not be issued.
